Hōgai Kano 狩野芳崖（1828―1888）
Hōgai won the first prize at the “鑑画会-Kangakai-” organized by Fenollosa. His work “仁王捉鬼図 (1886)” is very unique. The expression of the demon is a cartoon. A creature-like outline surrounds 仁王. I like the contrast between red and green in this work. There is dignity in the intense. It can be said that it is Japanese.
